I believe relationships are a basic human need. Our relationship experience plays a significant role in shaping who we are and how we feel about others and ourselves. Because of this, distress is a completely normal response to problems in our relationships; and most importantly, our relationships have the power to create healing in our lives. My perception of the fundamental importance of relationships to wellbeing is the foundation of my therapy approach with individuals, as well as couples- and my practice of emotionally focused therapy.
I see counseling/psychotherapy as a collaborative journey of connection, discovery, and healing. The healing and change process begins with the relationship between client and therapist. I take great care to create a feeling of safety within the therapeutic process. I support my clients in accessing and utilizing their unique, inherent strengths and resilience, while helping them to identify and resolve obstacles interfering with life-satisfaction. Through this process, my clients are able to enact change, discover increased wellbeing and purpose in their lives, and transform their relationships.
Stepping into this therapy process takes great courage and strength, and change is hard for all of us. It is my joy and privilege to partner with my clients in their process of creating the change they seek in their lives.
