In the fall, trees let go of their leaves and teach us the importance of “letting go.”
In 5 elements acupuncture, the fall corresponds with the METAL element. The Metal element is about “letting go”; Letting go of whatever doesn’t serve us anymore.
“Letting go” can mean on a physical level, such as something in our house that we no longer need. Clearing it, leaves us more space for something new.
On the emotional level, it means to let go of thoughts or emotions that cause us pain. In 5 elements of Chinese medicine, the heart is the house of the “Shen” which is our soul or spirit. Sometimes letting go of certain emotions, can help us to feel happier.
On the body level, the metal element corresponds with the LUNGS and the LARGE INTESTINE. The lungs breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. The large intestine reabsorbs water at the end of the food digestion process. It then releases the waste of the food that was eaten as stools. These organs absorb two of the most essential molecules for life, then let go of the waste.
Throughout our life, we come across situations that are difficult to “digest” emotionally. Those situations might leave us emotionally out of balance, and knock the air out of our sails. If we only knew how to extract the good out of the bad and let go of the bad, so we could become stronger and happier than before.
Sometimes the lungs and the large intestine correspond with certain emotions in the Metal element. It might show up with symptoms in those organs, like breathing difficulties, such as Asthma or constipation, etc.
Acupuncture can help you to heal some of the chronic symptoms in the lungs and the large intestine. The skin also corresponds with the Metal element, therefore chronic rashes, such as Eczema or Psoriasis, might be eased by working on those meridians.
Each one of us is so special, like a diamond that wants to shine. Letting go of waste can help us to find our diamond in the rough.
